Workshop Controller

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Workshop Controller to lead the Service Department of a busy multi‑franchise automotive dealership in Bristol. The role combines operational oversight, team leadership and customer‑focused service delivery to ensure the workshop runs efficiently and profitably.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day‑to‑day operations of the Service Department, ensuring safety, productivity and quality standards are met.
• Allocate work to vehicle technicians, monitor progress and adjust schedules to meet customer bookings.
• Motivate and lead the workshop team, fostering a high‑performance culture.
• Collaborate closely with Service Advisors to plan and manage bookings and ensure seamless customer experience.
• Maintain compliance with industry regulations and health‑and‑safety requirements.
• Monitor technical quality control and workshop targets, reporting performance metrics.
• Facilitate effective communication between workshop, parts and administration departments.

Required profile

• Minimum three years’ experience managing an automotive workshop or similar environment.
• Previous experience in a franchise‑approved dealership is preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Proven leadership and team‑management skills.
• Results‑driven with a focus on quality and efficiency.
• Valid UK driving licence with minimal points.
• Residency in Bristol or within reasonable commuting distance.

• Starting salary of £34,000‑£36,000 per annum, dependent on experience.
