Workshop Manager – Automotive Service Centre

About the role
Our client, a family‑run independent service centre in Gloucester, is looking for an experienced Workshop Manager to lead a busy automotive workshop. The role involves overseeing a small team of technicians, ensuring efficient workflow and delivering high‑quality customer service.
Key responsibilities
- Manage a team of 3‑4 Vehicle Technicians, planning schedules and allocations.
- Step in on the workshop floor during technician absence or for complex vehicle issues.
- Monitor workflow and keep customers informed on vehicle progress.
- Source and supply parts efficiently.
- Handle administrative duties including returns, credits and MOT administration.
- Cover the service reception desk when a Service Advisor is unavailable.
- Review work orders, estimate costs and price vehicle repairs.
- Perform ad‑hoc tasks to support overall workshop operations.
Required profile
- Proven experience managing a busy automotive workshop, preferably with an MOT centre.
- Residence within a reasonable commuting distance of Staverton.
- High technical ability demonstrated by an IMI/NVQ Level 3 in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong customer‑service orientation with the ability to lead, motivate and develop a team.
- IT literacy and competence in workshop management systems.
- Valid UK driving licence with minimal points.
Required skills
- Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (IMI/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent).
- MOT procedures and administration.
- Workshop management software proficiency.
