Workshop Manager – Steel Fabrication

About the role

Our client, a well‑established construction and main contracting business, is expanding its structural steel capability and seeks an experienced Workshop Manager to lead the steel fabrication workshop. You will be responsible for day‑to‑day production, supervising a team of 8‑10 operatives and ensuring quality, safety and on‑time delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Manage daily operations of the steel fabrication workshop.
• Supervise welders, fabricators and other workshop operatives.
• Coordinate production schedules to meet project deadlines.
• Review and interpret fabrication drawings, specifications and project requirements.
• Ensure all work complies with quality standards and health & safety regulations.
• Monitor productivity, labour allocation and material usage.
• Liaise with project managers, engineers, procurement and site teams.
• Identify and resolve production issues proactively.
• Oversee maintenance and safe operation of workshop equipment.
• Support staff training, performance management and development.

Required profile

• Proven experience in structural steel or steel fabrication.
• Previous supervisory or management experience.
• Strong understanding of fabrication processes, welding and structural steelwork.
• Ability to read and interpret technical and engineering drawings.
• Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills.
• Commercial awareness and ability to manage multiple projects.
• Strong knowledge of health & safety practices in a workshop environment.
