Yard Operative

About the role

Rainham Steel is expanding its depot in Rainham, Essex and is looking for a Yard Operative to support daily stock‑yard activities. The role is full‑time, based on‑site, and involves handling steel products, serving customers and maintaining a safe working environment.

Key responsibilities

• Load and unload HGVs safely and efficiently.
• Assist customers by providing information on stock availability and product ranges.
• Operate overhead cranes and side‑loader equipment after training.
• Drive forklift trucks to move materials around the yard.
• Keep the yard tidy, organized and compliant with health‑and‑safety standards.
• Perform manual handling tasks in all weather conditions and be prepared for occasional paid overtime.

Required profile

• Strong attention to detail and good communication skills.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced, pressure‑filled environment.
• Physical fitness to stand, walk and handle loads for most of the day.
• Proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
