Yard Supervisor

About the role

An established supplier in the construction and infrastructure sector is looking for a hands‑on Yard Supervisor to manage its busy depot. The role is fully onsite, involves leading a team, operating telehandlers and ensuring safe, efficient yard operations in all weather conditions.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee and supervise day‑to‑day yard operations.
• Operate telehandlers safely (licence required).
• Load and unload articulated vehicles efficiently.
• Sort, inspect and manually clean hire and used materials.
• Maintain yard organisation, stock control and operational standards.
• Complete and manage accurate daily operational paperwork.
• Supervise and support Yard Operatives, including performance management and holiday approvals.
• Coordinate temporary labour when needed.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and maintain a safe working environment.
• Conduct regular stock checks and maintain accuracy.
• Arrange servicing, maintenance and upkeep of plant and yard equipment.
• Supervise site consumables, arrange skip changes and source quotes.
• Monitor fuel levels and provide data for ordering.
• Support senior management with ongoing yard improvements and development.
• Provide regular updates on performance, staffing and operational matters.

Required profile

• Extensive experience operating telehandlers in a commercial yard or construction environment (current licence required).
• Proven experience supervising or managing operational teams.
• Strong understanding of employee supervision and basic HR processes.
• Experience handling construction materials and hire‑based products.
• Excellent communication and organisational abilities.
• Basic IT skills, including Outlook and working knowledge of Excel.
• Strong leadership with a hands‑on, team‑focused approach.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Reliable, punctual and able to work outdoors in physically demanding conditions.
• Health & Safety experience.
