Year 1 Teacher (Phonics Specialist) – Fixed‑Term 12‑month

About the role

We are supporting a well‑regarded primary school in the London Borough of Bexley to appoint a Year 1 Teacher on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract. The successful candidate will join a supportive two‑form entry team and deliver engaging, creative lessons that inspire confidence and achievement in young learners.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver high‑quality Year 1 lessons across the curriculum.
• Provide systematic synthetic phonics instruction using a recognised scheme (e.g., Little Wandle, Read Write Inc., Sounds‑Write, Jolly Phonics).
• Assess pupil progress and adapt teaching strategies to meet individual needs.
• Collaborate with colleagues on shared planning and peer‑support activities.
• Maintain a positive classroom environment that promotes good behaviour and learning.

Required profile

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
• Experience teaching Key Stage 1 or strong knowledge of the Year 1 curriculum.
• Demonstrated experience delivering phonics using a recognised scheme.
• Commitment to achieving excellent outcomes for all pupils.
• Reflective practitioner with high expectations for learning and behaviour.
• Ability to thrive in a collaborative, supportive team environment.
