Year 1 Teaching Assistant (KS1) – Phonics – Surbiton

About the role

Prospero Teaching is seeking a Year 1 Teaching Assistant to join a popular mainstream primary school in Surbiton. The role is full‑time, term‑time only, and offers the chance to develop your expertise in phonics and SEN support within a supportive senior leadership team.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the class teacher in delivering the Year 1 curriculum, with a focus on phonics.
• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for pupils, including those with ASD and EBD.
• Maintain accurate records and contribute to safeguarding practices.
• Support classroom management and behaviour strategies as directed.

Required profile

• Minimum 1 year experience in Key Stage 1 or 2 within the UK.
• Demonstrated phonics experience.
• Current safeguarding training (issued within the last year).
• Experience working with SEN pupils, particularly ASD and EBD.
• Right to work in the UK and an enhanced DBS with online update service.
• Two professional references covering the last two years.
