Year 1 Teaching Assistant (SEND Support & Maternity Cover)

About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and adaptable Teaching Assistant to join our Key Stage 1 team on a maternity‑cover basis starting 1 September 2026. The role is full‑time, term‑time only, and based in Warton (PR4), a beautiful village setting that supports our Forest School ethos.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small‑group support for two SEND pupils – one with ASD and one with global developmental delay and speech, language and communication needs.
• Implement focus strategies to keep the ASD pupil engaged during lessons.
• Deliver speech and language interventions for the pupil with developmental delays.
• Assist the class teacher in transitioning 21 pupils from EYFS to structured Year 1 learning.
• Support outdoor play and Forest School sessions, encouraging nature‑based learning.
• Collaborate with the class teacher and SENDCo to monitor, track, and report pupil progress.

Required profile

• Minimum Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent Early Years qualification.
• Experience working with SEND pupils, particularly ASD and speech‑language needs.
• Ability to deliver 1:1 and small‑group support in a primary‑school environment.
• Strong communication skills and a nurturing, patient approach.
