Year 6 Behaviour Specialist Teaching Assistant (Sports Background Preferred)

About the role

We are seeking a confident Year 6 Behaviour Specialist Teaching Assistant to work with a small group of pupils who need additional guidance with behaviour, focus and emotional regulation. The role is based in a supportive primary school in Brent and is ideal for candidates with a sports, coaching or mentoring background who can channel energy positively.

Key responsibilities

• Provide targeted behaviour support both inside and outside the classroom.
• Assist pupils with emotional regulation, self‑management and concentration.
• Use sports‑based activities to increase engagement, motivation and discipline.
• Act as a consistent, positive role model and mentor.
• Support learning during lessons and unstructured times.
• Help pupils manage transitions and prepare for secondary school.
• Collaborate closely with the class teacher, SENCO and pastoral team.
• Promote resilience, teamwork and positive behaviour.

Required profile

• Experience supporting pupils with behavioural or emotional needs.
• Background in sports, coaching, mentoring or youth work (highly desirable).
• Experience working with Upper Key Stage 2 or similar age groups.
• Calm, firm and fair approach with strong communication skills.
