Young Carers Support Coordinator (Volunteering Lead)

About the role

The Young Carers Support Coordinator (Volunteering Lead) will join a small independent charity in Winchester, delivering programmes that support children and teenagers who care for unwell or disabled family members. Working 30 hours per week on a hybrid basis, you will help empower young carers to maintain their wellbeing and pursue education and life opportunities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the weekly Young Carers Exploration Programme (ages 8‑17) on Wednesday evenings.
• Support the Activities Lead in planning and delivering the charity’s annual activities programme, including evenings and school holidays.
• Recruit, induct, train, supervise and develop a team of volunteers.
• Identify individual support needs and make appropriate referrals to external organisations.
• Record all interventions in the charity’s database system.
• Promote awareness of young carers’ issues to individuals, families, partners and funders.
• Ensure compliance with safeguarding, lone‑working and other charity policies, and monitor volunteer adherence.
• Participate in team meetings, training sessions and any additional duties assigned by the Manager.

Required profile

• Experience working with children or young people, preferably in a charitable or community setting.
• Understanding of safeguarding procedures and ability to follow strict policies.
• Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate volunteers.
• Proactive attitude towards raising awareness and contributing to team objectives.
