Young Person Support Worker – Specialist Care

About the role

We are seeking compassionate individuals to join our team as Young Person Support Workers, providing specialist, trauma‑informed care to vulnerable children in Northumberland. You will work within warm, welcoming homes, helping young people build confidence, independence, and a brighter future.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver day‑to‑day trauma‑informed support as outlined in each child’s care plan, including meal preparation, bedroom upkeep, and home cleanliness.
• Promote healthy lifestyle choices through structured routines typical of a family home.
• Support engagement with education, training, or employment opportunities.
• Foster positive relationships with neighbours and the wider community.
• Facilitate access to broader support services, health appointments, and community, cultural, and leisure activities.
• Provide transport when required, holding appropriate business‑use insurance.
• Encourage and support family contact where specified in the care plan.
• Listen to and act upon the child’s views regarding their care and accommodation.
• Follow the Philomena protocol if a child goes missing, reporting to the relevant social worker or duty worker.
• Assist with transition plans and move‑on support.
• Maintain a daily logbook and report incidents such as self‑harm, substance misuse, or violent behaviour.

Required profile

• Empathetic and experienced in supporting vulnerable children.
• Ability to work within a team and follow detailed care plans.
• Valid business‑use insurance and, where needed, a driver’s licence for transport duties.
• Commitment to adhering to safeguarding protocols, including the Philomena protocol.
