Youth Engagement Mentor (Part‑time, Flexible)

About the role
The Youth Engagement Mentor works directly with young people who are persistently absent or excluded from school. Based in Middlesbrough and surrounding areas, you will provide one‑to‑one support to help them re‑engage with education, training or vocational pathways.
Key responsibilities
- Build trusting relationships by meeting students in their environment, often at their homes.
- Deliver 1:1 sessions focused on confidence, emotional regulation and self‑esteem.
- Facilitate low‑pressure, interest‑based learning activities to rekindle a habit of learning.
- Accompany students to interviews, placements and teach practical life skills such as budgeting and public transport navigation.
- Represent the young person in multi‑agency meetings with Social Care and CAMHS, and support parents in creating a conducive home environment.
Required profile
- Resilience, empathy and a genuine desire to improve young people’s life chances.
- Ability to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends as needed.
- Experience or interest in supporting young people with SEND, SEMH or complex barriers.
Required skills

- Flexible, student‑centred contract (part‑time, temporary).
- Hourly rate of £25‑£30.
