Youth Engagement Mentor (Preston)

About the role
The Youth Engagement Mentor works directly with young people who are persistently absent or excluded from school, helping them rebuild confidence and re‑engage with education or vocational pathways. Based in Preston and surrounding areas, the role offers flexible, student‑centred support.
Key responsibilities
- Build trusting relationships by meeting young people in their environment, often at their homes.
- Deliver one‑to‑one sessions focused on confidence, emotional regulation, and self‑esteem.
- Provide low‑pressure, interest‑based activities to rekindle a love of learning.
- Accompany students to interviews, placements, and teach practical life skills such as budgeting and public transport navigation.
- Represent the young person’s voice in multi‑agency meetings with Social Care and CAMHS.
- Support parents in creating a home environment that encourages attendance and growth.
Required profile
- Resilience and genuine empathy for young people facing complex barriers.
- Ability to work independently and adapt to varied, sometimes unpredictable schedules.
- Comfort with trauma‑informed approaches and crisis moments.
