Youth Mentor (Blackpool)

About the role
The Youth Mentor position supports young people who are persistently absent or excluded from school. Working one‑to‑one, you will help them rebuild confidence, re‑engage with learning and access vocational pathways.
Key responsibilities
- Build trusting relationships by meeting students in familiar settings, often at their homes.
- Deliver 1:1 sessions focused on emotional regulation, self‑esteem and confidence.
- Facilitate low‑pressure, interest‑based learning activities to rekindle a habit of study.
- Accompany students to interviews, placements and other appointments, teaching practical life skills such as budgeting and public‑transport navigation.
- Represent the young person’s voice in multi‑agency meetings with social care and mental‑health services.
- Support families in creating environments that encourage school attendance and personal growth.
Required profile
- Resilience and genuine empathy for young people facing complex barriers.
- Ability to work flexibly across Blackpool and surrounding areas.
- Experience or interest in supporting individuals with SEND, SEMH or other challenges.
- Strong communication skills for multi‑agency collaboration.
