About the role
We are seeking a compassionate 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a Year 3 pupil with autism in a welcoming junior school in Sheldon, Birmingham. The role starts in September and offers the chance to make a lasting impact on a child's educational journey within an inclusive environment.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑to‑one support to a pre‑verbal/minimally verbal child using visual communication strategies.
- Implement sensory regulation techniques and maintain structured routines throughout the day.
- Assist with toileting using a potty, offering close supervision and guidance.
- Collaborate closely with the class teacher, SENCo and wider school team to ensure consistent support.
Required profile
- Level 2 or Level 3 teaching qualification (or equivalent).
- Experience supporting children with autism, especially those who are pre‑verbal or minimally verbal.
- Knowledge of sensory processing needs and effective regulation strategies.
- Experience providing toileting assistance.
- Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
