3rd Engineer – Belfast to Cairnryan Ferry

About the role

Stena Line is seeking an experienced 3rd Engineer to join the engine department of the Stena Superfast 7 on the Belfast‑Cairnryan route. You will work closely with the Master and Chief Engineer, ensuring safe and efficient operation of the vessel’s propulsion and auxiliary systems.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Chief Engineer in operating, monitoring and maintaining main and auxiliary engines.
• Conduct routine inspections, preventive maintenance and repairs in the engine room.
• Maintain compliance with all safety, environmental and regulatory requirements, including STCW standards.
• Prepare and update technical logs, reports and documentation.
• Respond to emergencies and support the crew in troubleshooting and problem‑solving.

Required profile

• Team‑player who collaborates effectively with colleagues and other shipboard stakeholders.
• Reliable and results‑oriented, able to see tasks through to completion.
• Previous experience on passenger vessels is highly desirable.

Required skills

• Basic STCW training and ENG1 medical certificate.
• STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats.
• STCW Seafarer with Designated Security Duties – 2nd Engineer.
• Unlimited CoC III/2.
• Crowd Management Training.
• Passenger Safety Training.
