Acting Senior Editor – Primary Care Journal (Maternity Cover)

About the role

We are seeking an Acting Senior Editor (maternity cover) to lead the editorial work for The Lancet Primary Care, a gold open‑access primary‑care journal. The role involves overseeing the creation and publication of original material, managing submissions, conducting quality peer review, and building global relationships with experts to disseminate practice‑changing research.

Key responsibilities

• Manage peer review of high‑quality research papers and commission authors for new articles.
• Develop and maintain relationships with the global primary‑care community to attract top‑tier research.
• Represent the journal at conferences and events, staying abreast of developments and identifying new topics.
• Write editorials and other journal content as required.
• Contribute to new initiatives for the journal’s future development.

Required profile

• MD or PhD with post‑doctoral experience, or a postgraduate degree plus substantial senior editorial experience on a peer‑reviewed STM journal.
• Thorough knowledge of biological and medical sciences and broader social issues in primary care.
• Proven ability to engage and build relationships with researchers, clinicians, media and internal teams.
• Excellent organisational skills and ability to meet demanding press deadlines.
• Outstanding command of English and ability to write engaging content.
• Proficiency with IT systems, including MS Office.
