Assistant Accountant – Professional Services – Excellent Opportunity

About the role

Our client, a fast‑growing UK‑based professional services and advisory firm, is seeking an Assistant Accountant to support the Finance Director. You will provide day‑to‑day transactional and analytical assistance, focusing on month‑end close, expense control, audit evidence, and accounts receivable.

Key responsibilities

• Execute month‑end close activities: journal entries, balance‑sheet reconciliations, reporting packs and inter‑company transfer pricing recharges.
• Review and reconcile employee expenses and corporate cards, ensuring policy compliance, correct coding and VAT treatment.
• Prepare audit schedules, respond to auditor queries and maintain financial controls documentation.
• Support accounts receivable: credit control, cash allocation, debtor management, billing queries and cash‑flow forecasting.
• Leverage AI‑enabled finance tools to improve efficiency, contribute to process improvements and provide ad‑hoc analysis for senior finance leadership.

Required profile

• A degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline (or equivalent qualification/experience).
• 2‑3 years of experience in an accounting or finance role, preferably with exposure to month‑end close, expense processing or AR/credit control.
• Right to work in the UK (no visa sponsorship).
• Strong attention to detail, methodical approach to reconciliations and documentation.
• Excellent communication skills for interaction with internal stakeholders and external auditors.
