Assistant Financial Accountant

About the role

The AA’s underwriting division is seeking an Assistant Financial Accountant to strengthen financial control, reporting and analysis. This hybrid role offers hands‑on experience across finance and accounting within a dynamic insurance environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and post monthly technical accounting journals and maintain accurate accounting files.
• Reconcile premium income with the Pricing team to ensure financial accuracy.
• Prepare quota‑share statements, resolve queries and manage partner payments.
• Complete Insurance Premium Tax (IPT) returns and remit payments to HMRC on schedule.
• Perform balance‑sheet reconciliations and uphold strong financial controls.
• Collaborate with Finance Systems to improve ledger integrity and reporting processes.
• Support internal and external audits by providing required documentation.
• Partner with Group Finance to deliver accurate financial reporting for stakeholders.
• Assist with forecasting, planning, management information and underwriting performance analysis.
• Contribute to regulatory reporting, ad‑hoc projects and junior team development.

Required profile

• Qualified or part‑qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with a solid foundation in financial accounting.
• Experience in insurance accounting is advantageous but not essential.
• Strong analytical mindset and ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders.
• Comfortable communicating financial information and thriving in a fast‑paced environment.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel proficiency.
