About the role
The Department of Engineering Science at Oxford seeks an Associate Professor to lead research at the interface of Engineering Biology, Control Engineering and Artificial Intelligence. The appointment starts on 5 April 2027 (or earlier) and includes a Non‑Tutorial Fellowship at Kellogg College.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and lead an independent research group in Engineering Biology and Control Engineering.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses and supervise PhD and MSc students.
- Contribute to the Engineering Biology Centre for Doctoral Training and the new MSc in AI for Engineering Biology.
- Engage with industry partners, secure research funding and foster interdisciplinary collaborations.
- Participate in departmental administration and academic service.
Required profile
- Established record of research excellence in Engineering Biology, Control Engineering or related fields.
- Experience in leading research teams and obtaining external funding.
- Ability to teach and mentor students at all levels.
- Strong communication skills for collaboration across academia and industry.
