Audit Manager – Lead Audits for SME Clients

About the role

The Audit Manager will lead audit engagements from planning through to completion for a diverse portfolio of SME clients in Manchester. You will work within a leading UK advisory practice that offers hybrid working, clear career progression and a collaborative culture.

Key responsibilities

• Own and manage a varied audit client portfolio, preparing audit plans, risk assessments and ensuring compliance with UK GAAP, IFRS and auditing standards.
• Supervise, mentor and develop audit teams, reviewing workpapers and delivering high‑quality audit reports.
• Provide technical and compliance advice on corporation tax, VAT and related matters to clients and partners.
• Support business development by nurturing client relationships and contributing to revenue and profitability targets.
• Assist partners with audit controls, file reviews, partner reporting and internal process improvements.

Required profile

• ACA, ACCA or CA qualified with solid practice‑based audit experience.
• Strong knowledge of UK GAAP, IFRS and UK auditing standards.
• Proven ability to manage a portfolio of SME audit clients across multiple sectors.
• Demonstrated leadership in coaching and supervising junior staff.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with audit software.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel capabilities.
