Best Interest Assessor – Social Care (Manchester)

About the role

Our client, Trafford Council, is seeking a qualified Best Interest Assessor to join its Social Care team in Manchester. You will deliver timely, evidence‑based assessments in line with the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards legislation, supporting vulnerable adults and ensuring compliance with legal and policy standards.

Key responsibilities

• Undertake Best Interests Assessments promptly, adhering to MCA and DoLS requirements.
• Produce high‑quality, evidence‑based assessment reports.
• Manage a varied caseload, prioritising work effectively.
• Collaborate with multi‑disciplinary professionals and care providers.
• Contribute to internal assessment capacity to reduce reliance on external providers.
• Ensure practice complies with legal frameworks, local policy, and best‑practice guidance.

Required profile

• Qualified Social Worker, Nurse, Occupational Therapist, or Psychologist with a BIA qualification.
• Experience completing DoLS assessments within a local authority setting.
• Strong working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.
• Ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities.
• Excellent report‑writing and analytical abilities.

Required skills

• Knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act (MCA).
• Knowledge of Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS).
