Community & Social Value Manager

About the role

Biffa is seeking a passionate Community & Social Value Manager to lead its social value programme across Greater Manchester and the North West. The role focuses on sustainability, community engagement and education, aiming to raise Biffa’s profile within schools, colleges, universities, local authorities and businesses.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop a small team to deliver community engagement and social value initiatives.
• Build strong relationships with educational institutions, local authorities, community groups and businesses.
• Organise educational visits to Biffa facilities and deliver recycling and environmental presentations.
• Develop and coordinate volunteering opportunities for employees and external partners.
• Create and manage a rolling programme of community events across the region.
• Represent Biffa at exhibitions, career fairs, networking events and community initiatives.
• Work with Marketing to promote projects and campaigns on social media.
• Produce reports on social value outcomes, community impact and business opportunities.
• Support business development teams by evidencing social value achievements in tenders.
• Promote graduate opportunities, placements and project work with local colleges and universities.
• Coach, motivate and develop the team to achieve objectives.

Required profile

• Strong relationship‑building and communication abilities.
• Genuine passion for recycling, sustainability and environmental education.
• Experience in community engagement, stakeholder management or social value delivery.
• Excellent presentation skills for audiences of all ages.
• Proven project management and coordination experience.
• Ability to develop lasting partnerships across education, government and community organisations.
• Leadership experience in motivating and developing teams.
