About the role
We are seeking an experienced Contracts Lawyer to provide high‑quality legal advice to council directorates and corporate services. The role is primarily remote with occasional on‑site attendance in Oxfordshire.
Key responsibilities
- Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of contractual documents, including construction contracts and grant funding agreements.
- Advise on procurement law, tendering processes, and the application of the Council’s Contract Procedure Rules.
- Handle contract modifications under the Public Contracts Regulations 2015 and the Procurement Act 2023.
- Provide litigation support and represent the Council in courts, tribunals and statutory inquiries.
- Participate in project teams to ensure legal compliance and deliver timely advice.
- Research legal developments and advise on best practices for service delivery.
- Deliver training and procedural guidance to council members and staff.
Required profile
- Current practising certificate as a solicitor.
- Minimum 3 years post‑qualification experience in local government or public‑sector contracts.
- Proven experience with Public Contracts Regulations 2015, Procurement Act 2023, funding agreements and subsidy control law.
- Willingness to attend the office at least one day per week when required.
