Costs Team Leader – Medical Negligence

About the role

The Legists is seeking an experienced Costs Team Leader to head its Medical Negligence Costs Team in Birmingham. This senior position offers the chance to lead a high‑performing group of trainees, law costs draftsmen and costs lawyers, delivering top‑quality cost services for complex, high‑value medical negligence matters.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and develop a multidisciplinary costs team, ensuring consistent delivery of first‑class cost services.
• Oversee the preparation of Bills of Costs, court pleadings and detailed assessment proceedings.
• Provide technical guidance on complex costs issues and drive quality and consistency across all outputs.
• Collaborate with senior stakeholders to improve operational performance and recovery outcomes.
• Manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment while maintaining strong stakeholder relationships.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Costs Team Leader, Senior Costs Lawyer or Law Costs Draftsman with people‑management responsibilities.
• Strong understanding of medical negligence or high‑value personal injury costs.
• Excellent knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules and detailed assessment proceedings.
• Ability to build and maintain relationships with senior stakeholders.
