Defendant EL, PL & Casualty Solicitor – Local Government (Birmingham)

About the role

This position offers the chance to join a leading Local Government litigation team in Birmingham, handling a varied defendant personal injury caseload. You will work on Employers' Liability, Public Liability and casualty claims, gaining exposure to fast‑track and multi‑track matters.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a diverse portfolio of defendant personal injury matters, primarily EL, PL and Highways claims.
• Conduct liability investigations and progress claims from inception to resolution.
• Liaise with clients, witnesses, experts, counsel, courts and opposing solicitors.
• Draft witness statements, legal documents and detailed reports.
• Attend client meetings, conferences and court hearings as required.
• Collaborate with senior colleagues while taking ownership of your own files.
• Support business development initiatives and maintain strong client relationships.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor with experience in defendant personal injury, casualty or insurance litigation.
• Experience handling Employers' Liability, Public Liability and/or Highways claims.
• Confident in managing your own caseload.
• Solid understanding of the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR).
• Strong drafting, analytical and negotiation abilities.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
• Organised, proactive and able to prioritise a busy workload.
• Comfortable working both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
