Deputy Director Government Financial Reporting

About the role

The Deputy Director Government Financial Reporting will sit at the heart of the UK Treasury, shaping how public sector finances are reported, analysed and communicated. You will work closely with senior ministers, Treasury teams and other government departments to ensure transparency, accountability and high‑quality financial insight.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development and delivery of financial reporting policy across the whole of government.
• Oversee the production of Whole of Government Accounts and parliamentary financial reports.
• Provide authoritative advice to Treasury, Ministers and departmental finance teams.
• Drive continuous improvement in public expenditure analysis and financial stewardship.
• Contribute to the wider leadership of the Public Spending Group and the Government Finance Function.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in public sector finance or a comparable environment.
• Strong judgement with the ability to influence complex organisations.
• Excellent communication skills for briefing senior officials and ministers.
• Commitment to public service values and fostering an inclusive team culture.

Required skills

• Deep technical expertise in government financial reporting standards.
• Experience with Whole of Government Accounts and parliamentary reporting processes.
• Ability to analyse large‑scale public expenditure data.
