Electrician – Manchester Street Lighting

About the role

We are looking for a permanent Electrician to join our Manchester Street Lighting account. The role is based at Factory Lane Depot (M9 8AB) and involves working across the city to install, maintain and repair street lighting infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Install street light columns, bollards, signs and feeders in line with HEA and IEE 18th Edition wiring regulations.
• Repair lanterns using interchangeable electronic components.
• Diagnose and replace failed components and attend routine street‑lighting faults.
• Excavate foundations for bollards and signs.
• Participate in out‑of‑hours emergency call‑outs on a 1‑in‑6 standby rota.
• Maintain security of plant, tools and materials; ensure safe vehicle use and wear all required PPE.
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and attend mandatory training, including occasional overnight stays.

Required profile

• Qualified electrician with experience in street‑lighting or similar infrastructure projects.
• Ability to work 40 hours per week, including standby and emergency duties.
• Comfortable working outdoors and handling physical tasks such as excavation.
• Commitment to health and safety standards and continuous training.

Required skills

• Knowledge of HEA wiring regulations.
• Familiarity with IEE 18th Edition wiring standards.
• Electrical installation and fault diagnosis.
• Excavation for foundations.
• Use of PPE and safe vehicle operation.
