About the role
This position supports the delivery of environmental sustainability on Balfour Beatty rail projects across the South West, ensuring compliance, stakeholder engagement and performance reporting in line with the Building New Futures strategy. It combines hands‑on operational delivery with early‑stage guidance to embed sustainability actions throughout the project lifecycle.
Key responsibilities
- Champion environmental and sustainability outcomes, embedding Building New Futures commitments across project teams.
- Develop and maintain project‑specific environmental and sustainability plans, risk assessments and mitigation actions.
- Support senior advisors, liaise with group sustainability teams and ensure compliance with legal, contractual and ISO 14001 requirements.
- Provide technical advice on pollution control, waste management, ecology and environmental compliance.
- Upskill project teams and contractors through toolbox talks, work‑package plans and on‑site learning.
- Conduct inspections, audits and external audit facilitation, reporting findings to project and leadership teams.
Required profile
- Practical experience applying ISO 14001, including risk and opportunity assessment.
- Working knowledge of UK environmental legislation and compliance frameworks.
- Understanding of pollution, waste, ecology and related data types used for performance measurement.
- Degree in an environmental or sustainability‑related discipline (preferred).
- Registered Environmental Practitioner (REnvP) preferred.
- Valid UK driver’s licence.
