Family Solicitor – Public & Private Law (Birmingham)

About the role

Our client, a well‑established law firm in Birmingham, is seeking an experienced Family Solicitor to join its growing Family Department. You will handle a varied caseload covering both public and private family law, with a focus on care proceedings, child arrangements, adoption and Legal Aid matters.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert legal advice and representation across public and private family law matters.
• Manage cases from instruction through to conclusion, including court advocacy and attendance at hearings.
• Prepare legal documentation such as witness statements, court applications and briefs to counsel.
• Submit and manage Legal Aid applications and funding matters.
• Supervise junior solicitors, trainees and support staff where appropriate.
• Maintain accurate file management and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor with a minimum of 3 years post‑qualification experience in family law.
• Strong experience in public law children matters and care proceedings.
• Solid understanding of Legal Aid processes and funding applications.
• Proven ability to manage a busy, varied caseload independently.
• Excellent communication and client‑care skills, especially with vulnerable clients.
• Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a team.
