Financial Accountant (Hybrid, Birmingham)

About the role

Wesleyan is seeking a Financial Accountant to join its financial control team on a 12‑month fixed‑term basis. Working in a hybrid model (typically two days a week in the Birmingham office), you will help maintain the integrity of financial reporting across the Society and its regulated businesses.

Key responsibilities

• Own monthly balance‑sheet reconciliations, ensuring accurate reporting and robust controls.
• Prepare and review statutory and regulatory filings, including Annual Reports, Solvency II submissions and subsidiary accounts.
• Produce technical accounting papers and support complex accounting judgments throughout the reporting cycle.
• Contribute to group management accounts, management information, budgeting and quarterly board reporting.
• Collaborate with auditors and internal stakeholders to deliver compliant regulatory returns and statutory accounts for subsidiaries.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant (ACA) with strong technical accounting knowledge.
• Experience in a mid‑tier accountancy practice is preferred.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills, able to work with stakeholders at all levels.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with a detail‑oriented approach.
• Highly organised, capable of managing multiple priorities and tight deadlines.
