Financial Controller – Strategic Finance Lead

About the role

This senior finance position works directly with the Managing Director of a fast‑growing, owner‑led business that spans retail supply and a rapidly expanding e‑commerce channel. The role blends traditional finance leadership with commercial partnership, influencing both day‑to‑day operations and long‑term strategic direction.

Key responsibilities

• Own monthly management accounts, budgeting and forecasting processes.
• Monitor cash flow, profitability and overall business performance.
• Deliver commercial analysis across products, contracts and sales channels.
• Partner with the Managing Director to support strategic decision‑making.
• Support acquisition planning, integration and broader strategic initiatives.
• Identify opportunities to improve margins, reduce costs and drive efficiency.
• Strengthen financial controls, processes and reporting frameworks.
• Review and help implement a modern cloud‑based finance platform.
• Lead and develop the finance team.
• Manage external stakeholders including auditors, banks and advisers.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Financial Controller or Head of Finance.
• Strong commercial acumen with the ability to influence and challenge senior leadership.
• Background in owner‑led, growth‑focused or complex trading businesses.
• Experience in retail, e‑commerce, consumer products or manufacturing is advantageous.
• Track record of improving systems, processes and reporting.
• Comfortable operating in a fast‑paced, high‑expectation environment.
• Qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA or ACA).
• Hands‑on, proactive approach balancing strategy and delivery.
