Graduate Town Planner

About the role

This full‑time, permanent position offers a recent planning graduate the chance to work on a diverse portfolio of planning projects in Exeter. You will develop technical planning knowledge while supporting clients through the planning and development process.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in preparing planning statements, appraisals and supporting documentation.
• Conduct planning policy research and analysis.
• Assess and appraise new development opportunities.
• Support the preparation and submission of planning applications.
• Help manage planning appeals and related documentation.
• Liaise with local planning authorities, clients and consultants throughout the application lifecycle.
• Monitor application progress and respond to consultee and authority comments.
• Coordinate information from architects and specialist consultants.
• Participate in site visits, client meetings and attend planning committees where appropriate.
• Assist with community engagement, consultation activities and the preparation of fee proposals and project scopes.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Town Planning, preferably RTPI‑accredited.
• Strong interest in town planning and a desire to build a professional career.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Good research, analytical and organisational abilities with high attention to detail.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
• Proactive, motivated and ambitious approach to professional development.
• Willingness to learn, take responsibility and develop professionally.
