Group Director of Financial Control (Hybrid, Manchester)

About the role

Sellick Partnership is supporting a progressive devolved authority in Manchester to recruit a Group Director of Financial Control. This senior leadership position will shape and lead financial control across multiple organisations, reporting to the Group CFO.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Group’s financial control, treasury, statutory reporting and transactional finance functions.
• Develop and implement a consistent financial control framework across three organisations.
• Oversee production of statutory accounts and manage relationships with external auditors.
• Drive finance transformation initiatives across systems, processes and operating models.
• Build collaborative relationships across the Group to ensure alignment and shared standards.
• Provide strategic financial leadership in a complex, politically‑led environment.
• Support delivery of the Group’s strategy and wider organisational priorities.
• Act as a senior corporate leader, contributing beyond finance to overall success.

Required profile

• CCAB, CIMA or equivalent professional accountancy qualification.
• Significant senior leadership experience in financial control, corporate finance or a related core finance function.
• Proven experience in large, complex, multi‑organisation environments.
• Strong track record of delivering transformation across financial systems, processes and operating models.
• Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, with ability to build trusted relationships.
• Experience advising and constructively challenging senior executives and political stakeholders.
• Commitment to inclusive leadership and developing high‑performing teams.
• Open to candidates from private or public sector backgrounds.
