Head of Artificial Intelligence (Gen‑AI)

About the role

This is a once‑in‑a‑career opportunity to lead the AI agenda for a large, award‑winning international services group. Reporting directly to C‑suite leadership, you will shape the strategic direction of the organisation’s Generative AI capability while remaining hands‑on in design and delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and deploy a market‑leading Retrieval‑Augmented Generation (RAG) conversational agent using a complex proprietary dataset.
• Partner with product, content and senior stakeholders to translate business requirements into state‑of‑the‑art AI/ML/LLM solutions.
• Optimise LLMs, datasets and agent workflows to minimise hallucinations and ensure high‑quality output.
• Deploy and maintain RAG architecture and LLM pipelines in cloud environments, managing data‑chunking and text‑embedding strategies for semantic search.
• Monitor competitive landscape, model latency and performance, and report insights to leadership.
• Analyse user feedback and utilisation metrics to drive continuous experience improvements.
• Educate, mentor and up‑skill engineering teams and broader business on AI best practices.

Required profile

• Proven technical leader with a strong track record of building and scaling RAG systems.
• Deep expertise in Python for production‑grade AI development.
• Hands‑on experience with LlamaIndex, LangChain and LangGraph.
• Experience with model adaptation techniques such as prompting, fine‑tuning, instruction tuning or knowledge distillation.
• Solid grounding in evaluation methodology focused on correctness, faithfulness and robustness.
