Head of Planning (Partner)

About the role

We are seeking a senior Planning Partner to lead and grow the Birmingham planning practice of a nationally recognised law firm. The role offers genuine autonomy, backed by an established real‑estate team, and the chance to shape the firm’s growth across the Midlands.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Birmingham planning team and develop the practice across the Midlands.
• Advise a diverse client base on planning applications, strategic land, Section 106 and highways agreements, compulsory purchase, judicial review and major regeneration projects.
• Drive business development and generate new work for the practice.
• Mentor junior lawyers and collaborate with real‑estate, construction and environmental teams.
• Implement the firm’s strategic growth plans for the planning department.

Required profile

• Established Planning Partner or Legal Director ready for a partnership leadership role.
• Proven track record of handling complex planning matters for developers, housebuilders, landowners, local authorities and investors.
• Strong network within the Midlands market and a history of winning and developing long‑term client relationships.
