Health & Safety SSIP Scheme Assessor

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Health & Safety professional to join our team as an SSIP Scheme Assessor. You will review contractor submissions against nationally recognised health, safety and compliance standards, delivering high‑quality desktop assessments while maintaining the integrity of the CHAS accreditation process.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct detailed desk‑based audits of contractors’ HSQE management systems, policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with legal and industry standards.
• Apply professional judgement to assess documentation, provide clear feedback on non‑conformances and support contractors toward compliance.
• Meet defined KPIs and productivity targets while maintaining audit quality and accuracy.
• Liaise with stakeholders at all levels, from senior directors to SMEs, offering expert advice and building strong relationships.
• Contribute to the development of assessment standards by interpreting legislation and recommending updates.

Required profile

• NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent) – essential.
• Minimum 2 years’ UK Health & Safety experience in construction, engineering, manufacturing, facilities management or similar.
• Good understanding of UK Health & Safety legislation and industry best practice.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build credibility with stakeholders.
• Analytical mindset, high attention to detail and ability to work to deadlines.

Required skills

• NEBOSH General Certificate
• Knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation
• Familiarity with CDM Regulations
• Understanding of environmental legislation and HSQE management systems
• Auditing and compliance assessment experience
