Interim Director of Peer Review Management

About the role

Springer Nature’s Nature Portfolio is seeking an Interim Director of Peer Review Management to lead its editorial support operations on a maternity‑cover basis. The role will be based in London (or Pune) and operates under a hybrid working model, reporting to senior publishing leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a global Peer Review Management organization, overseeing day‑to‑day operations across a portfolio of high‑impact journals.
• Drive operational excellence and continuous improvement of manuscript handling and peer‑review workflows.
• Enhance the author and editor experience through data‑driven insights and technology integration.
• Collaborate with editorial, publishing, technology and operational stakeholders to align processes and support growth.
• Champion innovation, high service standards, and uphold editorial quality and research integrity.
• Manage and develop a large international team, fostering a culture of collaboration and performance.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in editorial support, publishing operations or related fields.
• Track record of delivering operational improvements and managing large, geographically dispersed teams.
• Strong understanding of peer‑review processes, research publishing and data‑driven decision making.
• Commitment to editorial quality, research integrity and stakeholder collaboration.
