Lead Developer

About the role

Universal Music Group’s Royalty and Copyright Product Team is looking for a Lead Developer to design, build and maintain an external‑facing royalty portal. The role sits within an agile product squad and works closely with product owners, analysts, architects, QA and DevOps engineers to deliver secure and high‑performing solutions for artists worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain backend services and APIs using Java.
• Implement and support AWS serverless components such as Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions and S3.
• Containerise applications with Docker and orchestrate them on Kubernetes.
• Contribute to scalable, secure and resilient cloud architecture design.
• Collaborate with DevOps to enhance CI/CD pipelines, automated testing and deployments.
• Model and optimise data in AWS Redshift and Aurora PostgreSQL.
• Provide technical leadership to the offshore development team and guide best practices.

Required profile

• Proven experience in backend development with Java.
• Strong background in cloud platforms, particularly AWS serverless services.
• Hands‑on expertise with Docker, Kubernetes and modern CI/CD workflows.
• Ability to work in an agile environment and coordinate with distributed teams.
• Willingness to adopt a late‑shift pattern for offshore collaboration.
