Lead Legal Counsel, IP

About the role

As Lead Legal Counsel within Bumble’s Intellectual Property team, you will be the senior subject‑matter expert guiding the company through complex IP questions across brands, products, technology and creative work. You will shape and execute a global IP strategy while collaborating closely with Marketing, Creative, Product and Engineering teams.

Key responsibilities

• Define and implement Bumble’s worldwide IP strategy, translating business priorities into protection, portfolio management, licensing and enforcement plans.
• Own significant matters across trademarks, copyright, patents, domain names, trade secrets and digital assets, working with external counsel and specialist providers.
• Provide rights‑clearance and IP advice from concept through launch, covering trademarks, copyright, publicity rights, creator and talent rights, user‑generated content and third‑party materials.
• Lead complex IP enforcement and dispute matters, including oppositions, litigation support and evidence management.
• Draft and negotiate sophisticated IP arrangements such as licences, coexistence agreements, assignments, merchandising and technology agreements.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor in England and Wales (or equivalent qualification in another European jurisdiction).
• Typically 8+ years of experience in intellectual property, with deep expertise in trademarks, copyright, brand protection, licensing and technology‑related IP matters.
• Proven ability to advise consumer‑technology businesses on software, digital content, AI and emerging‑technology IP issues.
• Strong commercial judgement, project‑management skills and the ability to build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders.
