Learning Support Assistant – Specialist SEND School

About the role

The Education Network Birmingham is recruiting a Learning Support Assistant for a specialist SEND school in Atherstone. You will work within a therapeutic environment, supporting pupils with autism, SEMH, communication difficulties and sensory processing differences to achieve their individual EHCP outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Provide personalised support to pupils both inside and outside the classroom.
• Work closely with teachers, therapists and other professionals to adapt learning activities.
• Support communication, independence and emotional development for each child.
• Promote positive behaviour, safeguarding strategies and a calm, nurturing environment.
• Assist with on‑site and off‑site activities, adapting approaches to sensory and learning needs.
• Collaborate with families and multidisciplinary teams to ensure consistent support.

Required profile

• Genuine passion for supporting children and young people with SEND.
• A‑Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
• Patient, caring and compassionate approach with excellent communication skills.
• Ability to adapt to diverse learning and behavioural needs.
• Calm and resilient when handling challenging situations.
• Commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing.
• Previous experience in SEND, education, care or therapeutic settings.
