Legal Counsel – Financial Regulatory & Product

About the role

We are expanding our London Legal team and are looking for two Legal Counsels with strong regulatory backgrounds in financial services. You will work closely with all business areas, advising on compliance with financial services and payments regulations, interacting with regulators, and supporting product launches across the Checkout.com group.

Key responsibilities

• Support regulator relationships on licence matters, including new applications.
• Review payments product structures, flows and terms for legal compliance.
• Advise on payments regulatory matters across multiple jurisdictions.
• Guide broader regulatory requirements for payment‑service providers and group change projects.
• Research new territories, assist with market expansion and licence applications.
• Provide proactive advice on emerging regulatory developments affecting operations, products and contracts.
• Conduct multi‑jurisdictional legal research and support strategic projects.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor/lawyer with 3‑7 years post‑qualification experience, either in‑house or in private practice.
• Strong understanding of UK payments legal principles, ecosystem and licensing strategy.
• Experience in fintech, payments, software, e‑commerce or banking is desirable.
• Comfort with fast‑paced, ambiguous environments and ability to work autonomously.
• Excellent time‑management, stakeholder handling and communication skills.
• Experience handling cross‑border legal matters and international regulatory issues.
