Legal Counsel – Technology & Commercial Law

About the role

The Financial Times is seeking a Legal Counsel to join its in‑house legal team. You will act as the primary legal contact for Product & Technology, Ad Tech and Payment Processing, providing practical advice on a wide range of technology‑focused commercial matters.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the key legal contact for Product & Technology, Ad Tech and Payment Processing teams.
• Provide clear, commercially‑focused legal advice that aligns with operational needs.
• Draft, review and negotiate software licences, SaaS, software development, service level and data processing agreements.
• Advise on data protection issues, including GDPR compliance for Ad Tech and cookie technologies.
• Collaborate with Procurement, Compliance and Cyber colleagues on relevant matters.

Required profile

• Qualified to practise English law with at least two years post‑qualification experience.
• Strong understanding of commercial and contract law, especially technology contracts.
• Proven ability to draft and negotiate complex agreements such as SaaS and data processing contracts.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and confidence to engage senior stakeholders.
