Legal Officer – HM Courts & Tribunals Service

About the role

The Legal Officer will join the First‑tier Tribunal Immigration and Asylum Chamber team at the Hatton Cross Hearing Centre. Working within a Regional Hearing Centre, you will support the national administration of tribunals by handling complex case work and making evidence‑based decisions to advance caseloads and remove barriers to timely justice.

Key responsibilities

• Undertake complex case assessment and management activities for immigration and asylum appeals.
• Make informed case management decisions under delegated judicial powers.
• Liaise with internal HMCTS colleagues and external stakeholders to ensure effective administration of justice.
• Support the Senior Legal Officer and judicial leadership in delivering fair and efficient tribunal outcomes.

Required profile

• Ability to reflect on issues and take an impartial, evidence‑based approach.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with a wide range of court users and stakeholders.
• Capacity to understand and process large volumes of information quickly.
• Law degree or equivalent technical experience demonstrating decision‑making aptitude.
