Mechanical Technician – Level 1 (Manufacturing)

About the role

Haskel, a market leader in high‑pressure fluid management, is looking for a Mechanical Technician – Level 1 to join its Sunderland manufacturing site. You will support skilled technicians in assembling and testing pumps, boosters, valves and related systems for the oil and gas sector, ensuring strict compliance with quality, safety and engineering standards.

Key responsibilities

• Assemble mechanical pump components such as air‑drive pistons, cycle valve spools, seals, bearings and pressure‑section pistons.
• Build pumps according to engineering drawings, schematics, work instructions and bills of materials.
• Assist senior technicians with complex assemblies and component alignment.
• Use hand tools, torque tools and assembly fixtures safely and correctly.
• Perform dimensional checks and inspections during and after assembly.
• Conduct functional and pressure testing on rigs up to 80 Kpsi.
• Troubleshoot, report and help resolve assembly issues, defects or non‑conformances.
• Ensure all work follows company quality procedures, ISO standards and oil‑&‑gas industry requirements.

Required profile

• Experience with high‑pressure equipment and mechanical assembly.
• Previous work in oil & gas, petrochemical or heavy‑engineering environments.
• Apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering.
• Strong attention to detail, health‑and‑safety awareness and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Required skills

• Mechanical assembly of pumps and pressure‑containing equipment.
• Use of hand tools, torque wrenches, verniers and micrometres.
• Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.
• Dimensional inspection and pressure testing (up to 80 Kpsi).
• Compliance with ISO quality standards and oil‑&‑gas industry regulations.
