Online Assistant – Retail

About the role

As an Online Assistant you will be the key link between Sainsbury’s stores and our online shoppers. You will pick, pack and prepare orders, ensuring customers receive the right products at the right time while delivering a friendly, efficient service.

Key responsibilities

• Pick and select high‑quality products for online orders, offering suitable substitutions when items are out of stock.
• Use a handheld device to follow a store‑wide route, track picking progress and meet time targets.
• Handle customer queries, process orders and assist in loading delivery vans for Home Delivery drivers.
• Provide proactive assistance to customers, answer questions and make product recommendations.
• Maintain product knowledge, stay updated on promotions and keep the store tidy and clutter‑free.
• Work flexibly across different store areas as required.

Required profile

• Comfortable with early‑morning shifts (many start at 4 am) and a fast‑paced, physical environment.
• Friendly, enthusiastic and eager to help customers.
• Initiative‑driven, able to solve problems independently and as part of a team.
• Willing to work flexibly and maintain high standards of cleanliness and detail.
• Physically able to lift and move containers up to 15 kg.

Required skills

• Proficiency with a handheld device for route planning and order tracking.
