Paralegal - Police, Care & Justice

About the role

DWF’s nationally recognised Police, Care & Justice team is seeking a Paralegal to join its specialist Police Malfeasance Civil Claims practice. Based in Manchester and working on a hybrid schedule, you will support senior lawyers on sensitive, high‑profile civil claims involving police forces across the UK.

Key responsibilities

• Assist senior team members on employer’s liability, public liability, personal injury, false imprisonment, assault and negligence claims.
• Support cases involving data protection, Equality Act, Human Rights Act and judicial review.
• Contribute to the preparation and handling of complex Article 2 inquests and public inquiries.
• Collaborate with the wider Police, Care & Justice team to deliver high‑quality legal services to public and private sector clients.
• Maintain high standards of client service, especially for sensitive or high‑profile matters.
• Engage in training and development to build specialist litigation expertise.

Required profile

• Demonstrable experience in civil litigation and a solid understanding of the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR).
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and meet strict deadlines.
• Excellent attention to detail and high‑level written and verbal communication.
• Proactive, collaborative attitude and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Confidence to take initiative and ownership of tasks.
• Enthusiasm for litigation and willingness to develop technical expertise through training.
• Interest or exposure to police claims work is desirable but not essential.
