Peer Mentor – Intensive Community Rehabilitation Team

About the role
Birmingham Mind is looking for a compassionate Peer Mentor to join its Intensive Community Rehabilitation Team. You will use your lived experience of mental health difficulties to support service users on their recovery journey, helping them build hope and develop coping strategies.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑to‑one peer support to individuals living with psychosis, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and related conditions.
- Deliver support in the community, at service users' homes and, when needed, in hospital settings across Birmingham.
- Work collaboratively with a multi‑disciplinary team of clinical, psychological and Birmingham Mind staff.
- Contribute to the team’s aim of reducing hospital admissions by promoting community‑based rehabilitation.
- Participate in evening and weekend shifts as required by the service schedule (9 am‑8 pm).
Required profile
- Personal experience of mental health difficulties and a period of stability in managing your own wellbeing.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to form therapeutic alliances.
- Commitment to the organisation’s vision of “Better Mental Health for All”.
- Willingness to work within a diverse, inclusive team environment.
Required skills
- Excellent listening and interpersonal communication.
- Understanding of recovery‑focused approaches.
- Ability to share personal experience constructively.
