People Manager – Operational HR Lead

About the role

Chip is seeking an experienced People Manager to strengthen and mature its operational People foundations as the business scales. The role focuses on practical, commercially‑minded HR delivery rather than employer branding, working closely with senior leadership and the wider People team.

Key responsibilities

• Own day‑to‑day People operations across the employee lifecycle, ensuring scalable and compliant processes.
• Design and improve onboarding experiences to set new starters up for success.
• Provide commercially aware People advice to managers, balancing legal compliance with business realities.
• Guide training and development, especially for People managers, and support career development frameworks.
• Review, update and maintain People policies, documentation and processes for a scaling organisation.
• Coordinate performance planning, compensation and incentive cycles.
• Partner with leadership on organisational changes, performance concerns and people‑related risk.
• Lead employee‑relations matters including disciplinaries, grievances and performance management.
• Coach and develop People team members, enhancing operational capability and employment‑law knowledge.
• Leverage AI tools and automation to improve efficiency and operational quality.
• Communicate people‑related updates, policies and initiatives clearly across the business.

Required profile

• Credibility, sound judgement and a highly practical, solutions‑focused mindset.
• Ability to operate independently, handle sensitive situations calmly and make judgement calls in ambiguous environments.
• Strong commercial awareness and confidence in dealing with day‑to‑day People realities in a regulated, scaling business.
• Excellent communication skills, direct and clear.
• Deep understanding of employment law and experience building trusted relationships across an organisation.
