Personal Tax Manager – Hybrid, Bedfordshire

About the role

We are partnering with an outstanding accountancy practice in Bedfordshire seeking a top‑quality Tax Manager to lead the Personal Tax department. Reporting to the Tax Director, you will drive strategic compliance and planning for high‑net‑worth individuals and complex private clients.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end preparation and review of complex personal tax returns, including self‑assessment, CGT, IHT and ATED.
• Deliver strategic tax planning advice to high‑net‑worth clients covering trusts, gift planning and tax‑efficient investment structures.
• Supervise and mentor a team of tax professionals, ensuring quality standards, deadlines and compliance protocols are met.
• Conduct technical reviews of tax computations and supporting documentation in line with HMRC guidance and case law.
• Collaborate with clients and external advisors to gather data and provide actionable tax solutions.

Required profile

• CTA (Chartered Tax Adviser) or ATT qualification with proven personal tax experience.
• Extensive experience in personal tax compliance and advisory within an accountancy firm.
• Strong knowledge of HMRC regulations, including PAYE, dividend taxation and anti‑avoidance rules.
• Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage performance and support professional development.
• Commitment to ongoing CPD and adherence to ICAEW or ICAH professional standards.

Required skills

• Proficiency with tax software such as Thomson Reuters Checkpoint, CCH AnswerBase and TaxCalc.
• Advanced Excel skills for complex calculations and data analysis.
